After I wrote this post a few weeks ago, I had a couple of friendly critiques that it was missing a specific Call to Action. Taking these criticisms seriously, I have embarked on a journey to lay out some prescriptions for those aware of what’s to come and who realize that “setting the nation ablaze with the ideas of liberty” isn't going to get anyone out of this.
If there is one thing that the last two years should have taught everyone - even if you remained in a comfortable position yourself but just took the slightest gander at the world unfolding around you - is that relying on one job that requires one skill at one company is a sure fire way to put yourself in a vulnerable position. I don’t care if you make $500,000/year. What happens when that $500,000 get threatened by a vaccine mandate? Are you living a $500K lifestyle? Are you ready to lose that income over night? Or will you roll up your sleeve and say “ok, just this one time….to get by?”
We are all essentially entrepreneurs whether we want to see it that way or not. The only difference is that many of us are entrepreneurs who only sell one product (our time) to one client (our employer). In order to protect yourself from being under immediate threat to your livelihood, you need to diversify either the products you sell or the clients you sell them to - and preferably both.
There has never been a time in human history when acquiring new skills has been so easy. For starters, you can search practically any skill on YouTube and and start learning something new. I am about the least handy person I know, and even I have been able to do some basic repairs on my car thanks to some YouTube tutorials. Taking this example alone - if you even learned to simply change your oil with a YouTube video, suddenly you now have a skill to do something for other people. Maybe instead of spending $80 at Jiffy Lube, now you can tell your friends “toss me a $20 and I’ll change your oil.” The existence of Jiffy Lube is evidence that the service is in demand, so there’s no reason why you couldn’t at least start offering it to your trusted circle of friends.
There are endless resources for those who are looking to acquire new skills at very, very low cost. Skillshare is an excellent resource that has courses on just about anything you can imagine. You can even use my own personal invite link to get yourself a free month. There, no excuses anymore! A free month with access to courses on any skill you’d like to acquire. Get to work!
Alternatively, Hubspot Academy is free and has certifications - that are actually respected in the industry - for social media management, digital marketing, and so much more! A great resource for anyone looking to make online income.
Most recently for myself, I am taking my first foray into learning computer programming code, particularly as it relates to cryptocurrency. In addition to some (again, FREE) resources I’ve found on YouTube, I’ve been able to get not only incredible knowledge but also hands-on experience through Bitcoin Mystery School. I can't recommend it highly enough for those who see the importance of this knowledge.
And if you don’t yet see the importance, I encourage you to check out a couple of recent podcast episodes I did, most recently with Pete Quinones and Cyprian, and previously with Tobias Ruck. In both we the nightmare of the CBDC’s (Central Bank Digital Currencies) that are on the way, and why time is of the essence when it comes to acquiring the knowledge it will take to navigate yourselves and others through that storm.
